Capital of the Italian Riviera is Sanremo, appreciated since the Nineteenth Century for its climate, and nowadays a famous end elegant tourist centre of international fame, renowned everywhere for its Casinò and the Festival of the Italian Song. But the tourist on visit also has the opportunity of discovering an Italian gem, a town placed in a wide inlet, a sort of natural amphitheatre, between Capo Nero and Capo Verde. While walking through the Pigna, the internal and oldest part of San Remo, one can discover its Medieval soul, with the steep streets called carruggi, and the castled houses. The modern town, instead, offers splendid promenades by the sea, streets in the town centre with some of the most elegant Italian Boutiques, interlacing with small alleys still emanating the fascination of the old fishermen’s village. Those looking for mundanity will be satisfied by its most famous building, the Casinò, and by a visit to the nearby Montecarlo in the Cote d’Azur; lovers of culture will not miss what is now the Festival par excellence, i.e. the Italian Song Festival, the concert season of the Sanremo Symphony Orchestra, the theatre performances and the art exhibitions. Sport amateurs will get satisfaction with the 18 hole golf field, the horse-riding field, wing and target shooting, besides the tennis courts, the minigolf, the Olympic swimming pools, sailing clubs, diving centres, canoeing and windsurf facilities. An inevitable appointment for all bike amateurs is the traditional “Milano-Sanremo”, while motor fans cannot miss the Rally of San Remo. When approaching the sea one can discover the small sea village of Piazza Bresca and Porto Vecchio (the Old Port), once a refuge for sea-ships and today an undeniable reign of industrious fishing boats and elegant yachts, today joined by Portosole, a modern nautical complex with 890 perfectly equipped berths. Bathing lovers will find wide sandy beaches, accessible shallow waters and welcoming bathing establishments.
