Riviera of Flowers is the Italian Riviera

The Riviera dei Fiori (Riviera of Flowers) or Italian Riviera is a mountain plunged into the sea, extending from Capo Cervo to the French border. The extraordinary richness of the landscape does not leave peace to the senses, which are aroused by tastes, scents and colours offered by nature among old wind-swept olive-trees and young sunny palms. The hills tell stories about men and women, nobles and peasants; the towns keep memory of their past in the cracks of the walls and colour of the plasters: this is the fascination of the Italian Riviera, her particularity.

A land which has asked for sacrifice to those who have wanted to make it their home-land, and which has absorbed the character of its inhabitants. Shy and proud, today as yesterday, the Italian Riviera always seems closed in itself. But if you reach its deeper interiority, it will disclose and offer itself to you. The history of the Italian Riviera is simple and hard, made of only a few heroes and the courage of common men. A history of invasions from the sea and retreats towards the hinterland, but above all a history of stones: now bare and sharpened, in the dry-stone walls of very old fillets, now solemn and awesome in the architecture of ancient fortresses or Medieval parishes, and then decorated and painted, as in the Baroque churches facing the sea.
