Ligury, a land you have to love

Liguria, a narrow land between mountains and the sea, offers an extraordinary variety of environments and landscapes. Mountains and cliffs appear to rise directly from the waters, in the extreme Northern part of the Mediterranean Sea. It is the dominating landscape of this territory, fascinating and breath-taking, and inducing an intensity of emotions and sensations in the visitor’s mind that will never leave him while travelling through this land full of historical memories. Ligury winds in a perfect arc from Ventimiglia to Sarzana, and is one of the smallest regions in Italy. It is not, however, of limited variety from a naturalistic point of view. In fact its flora and fauna are among the most various and fascinating in Italy. The coast, geographically divided between Riviera di Levante e Riviera di Ponente (Western Riviera and Eastern Riviera) by the regional capital, Genova, from the point of view of the landscape is characterized by the alternating of high picturesque coasts and flat sandy shores, while in the hinterland the steep hills meet with the Apennine Mountains.

The rich variety of hotels and sea establishments offers the tourist a pleasant stay. One can alternate a morning at the seaside with a trip on the hills, which may be reached easily on account of their proximity to the coast. Numerous little villages, where old ruined castles often bear witness to the glorious past of noble families, are disseminated in the hinterland of Ligury, and offer moments of life away from confusion and among hard-working and sympathetic people. The crown of mountains, immediately behind the coast, together with the beneficial influence of the sea, are the factors determining a temperate climate throughout the whole year, allowing for pleasant stays even in the heart of winter.
